I know that since Fall is right around the corner (at least, here in Germany), smoothie season is almost over. During the cold months I typically only drink cold smoothies after a workout.
Today I wanted to share two of my current favorite smoothie recipes that I came up with a few weeks ago.
Strawberry Coconut Smoothie (Serves 1)
This is a really nice refreshing smoothie. It’s so creamy thanks to the coconut milk and sweet enough thanks to the strawberries.
- 1 cup strawberries (I like using frozen ones)
- 1 cup water
- 4 tablespoons coconut milk
- Optional: sweetener of choice
Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. In the picture above I topped my smoothie with Lizi’s Granola.
Berry Spinach Smoothie (Serves 1)
Having a bit of trouble getting some greens into your diet? You don’t taste the spinach in this smoothie, but it’s a great way to sneak in a great amount of good for you vitamins and minerals.
- 1/2 cup mixed berries (I like to use frozen ones)
- 1 cup spinach
- 1/2 to 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup yogurt
- Optional: A dash of cinnamon and sweetener of choice
If you would like to add some protein powder to these smoothies, feel free to do so! I add protein powder to my smoothies when I’m having one after a workout.
Do you like drinking smoothies in Fall and Winter? What is your favorite smoothie? If you drink smoothies, when you do drink them?
Love the idea of topping the smoothie with cereal!
ReplyDeleteStill a little nervous of attempting adding spinach to my smoothie as really don't like the taste, but I will give this one a go, thanks!

Hi Georgia!
DeleteI was nervous about adding spinach to my smoothies at first but now I do it all the time. You really dont taste the spinach but you get all the great health benefits the green leaves have to offer!
The smoothies look good *_*
ReplyDeleteI actually never really tried to make one *shame on me*
But I think i have to try the first recipe soon :)
I wish you a great week :*
You should make a smoothie some time soon. They are so good! :)
DeleteI'm totally smoothie obsessed since my new blender arrived! Thanks for the recipes- To use coconut milk instead of real milk is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteYes, smoothies are awesome! Aw, your welcome! Let me know if you try them out. I would love to know what you think. :)
DeleteI'm going to have to pick up some coconut milk! I feel like I've been seeing it in so many great recipes lately. :)
ReplyDeleteI never made smoothies a lot until my husband went back to school, so now what I usually make him is this: http://lifewithcheeseburgers.com/2012/09/12/hubbys-favorite-breakfast-smoothie/
I only recently started using coconut milk and I love it.
DeleteWow that coconut strawberry smoothie looks delicious. Thanks for the recipe. My favorite is the standard banana strawberry mix.
ReplyDeleteMhmm, I love the strawberry and banana combo as well! So simple but so good!
DeleteThese sound like delicious smoothies. For some reason I really love smoothies that are coconut flavoured, and strawberry is a great pairing for that!
ReplyDeleteThank you, they are! :)
DeleteI dont know why I didnt add coconut to smoothies before. I'll be doing it a lot more often now.
I definitely associate smoothies with summer and warm weather, but cold weather doesn't stop me from eating ice cream and smoothies! :)
ReplyDeleteSame here. Who cares if it's cold old? I'm going to have my smoothies and ice cream! :D
DeleteI definitely associate smoothies with warmer weather too. But that strawberry coconut smoothie looks so good that I wouldn't mind it even when its a little colder outside! I think it could also be a fun way to boost your daily fiber intake any time of year.
ReplyDeleteI agree! You could even add in a banana or some raspberries for some extra fiber.
DeleteYou're so right! More berries and bananas would be a great way to additionally increase the fiber.
DeleteI've just rediscovered smoothies! My favorite kind is made with frozen raspberries, frozen pineapple, coconut milk (a little bit of the thin stuff from the carton and a little bit of the thick stuff from a can), and stevia drops. I'll probably eat it all winter long and freeze afterwards.
ReplyDeleteYay for welcoming smoothies back into your life! Arent smoothies awesome? I'll have to get some pineapple and freeze and recreate your favorite smoothie. It sounds really delicious. :)
DeleteI am a huge fan of smoothies. They fill you up without making you feel barfy from eating too much.

Me too! Yes, they make a great quick snak and meal too.
DeleteOh I really want to make the one with the spinach in it. Everyone says you can't taste the spinach and I want to try and see if it is true! :)
ReplyDeleteOk, I made it. Added protein powder and a whole container of chobani strawberry yoghurt. Was amazing!!!! Great idea :)
DeleteYay! I'm so glad you liked it! :) I love that you added some Greek yogurt and protein powder too.
DeleteAaah, I should really try having a smoothie at least once, too, seeing as every healthy living blogger seems to enjoy them. If it wasn't for my fear of liquid calories ... Do you find the smoothies saturating?
ReplyDeleteA completely different question: You ordered from iHerb before, right? Is there any way to pay without using an international credit card? I don't own one (and my mum won't let me use hers) but want to order so badly.
Yes, try a smoothie! They're so delicious. I find the smoothies I make pretty filling. Sometimes I'll have a protein smoothie for breakfast and it holds me over for a few hours. It really depends on how big your smoothie is.
DeleteYes, I've ordered from iHerb before. I love that website! I just checked the FAQ on the iHerb website but didnt find anything about what you asked me. Do you have a Paypal account? I'm pretty sure you can pay with that.
Be sure to contact the people at iHerb! They are really friendly and can help you.
I used to work at a smoothie shop and I would drink more smoothies in the fall/winter than I would in the summer!! I love smoothies anytime though.
ReplyDeleteThats so cool! I love smoothies pretty much anytime too.
DeleteIf I drink smoothies, I usually drink them in the morning - but I often forget how good they are until I do drink them! I hadn't had one in weeks, then made one yesterday and it was yummy :) But fall, winter, spring, or summer doesn't really affect if I have them... I eat more ice cream in winter than any other time of the year!
ReplyDeleteI like to drink them at any time of day. :) Haha, now that I think about it, I eat more ice cream in the winter too..
DeleteI love smoothies at anytime. I don't make them nearly enough but I love them!
ReplyDeleteI love them, too. I make them a few times a week. :)
DeleteI love adding coconut milk to smoothies!
ReplyDeleteThese look fabulous!
Sorry I have been a bit MIA, I have been so busy! :)
Thank you! And no problem, totally understand! <3
DeleteI am currently loving the combo of frozen cantaloupe & banana with vanilla extract, soy milk & plain yogurt!
ReplyDeleteOhh, that sounds like a delicious combo!
