My Favorite German Cereal

Whoa. Where have I been? Has it really been more than two weeks since I last posted? I’m so sorry for not checking in, I was really sick and a lot of things were going on, but I’m feeling a lot better now! Instead of talking about the past I’m going to get right into this post.

I got a few requests to talk about my favorite cereal from Germany. You all know I love cereal. And you all know I cant just eat one bowl. No. I pretty much never eat just one bowl of cereal. That’s why it was really important to me to find some good quality, tasty and healthy cereal.

I’ve tried so many different brands and it actually took me a while to find some that I enjoyed eating and that didn’t have a gazillion ingredients that I couldn’t even pronounce.

Seitenbacher | Kakao-Düsis

I recently discovered these and from the first time I tried them I fell in love with them! The cereal is from a German company and they also sell a bunch of different products. I’ve tried a few of their other cereal, but this one is my favorite.

Not only do I like to have this cereal with milk, but I also add it to yogurt and trail mix. Delish!

Only 4 ingredients and 108 calories for 30 g of cereal? The nutrition stats are just awesome.

This cereal definitely has a chocolaty taste but it’s not really sweet. It’s obviously not coated in sugar like other chocolate cereal out there but it’s super delicious! If you like your cereal to be sweet but still want something healthy, you could add some sweetener (honey, agave, stevia etc.) or you could try their other cereal.

Crownfield | Bran Flakes

I believe these are only available at the store “Lidl”. I tried them for the first time and the first thing that came to mind was “Raisin Bran” cereal. These bran flakes taste exactly like the ones from the Raisin Bran cereal. And I love Kellogg’s Raisin Bran (sadly cant find it here in Germany) cereal.. it’s awesome!

CIMG8143Ingredients Translation: whole wheat 63%, sugar, wheat bran 14%, barley, honey, salt.

The ingredients for this cereal are ok. Not the best because the second ingredient is sugar, but hey.. it’s not the end of the world! I love that this cereal has wheat bran. It provides fiber which helps keep you full for longer.

Alnatura | Dinkel Gepufft

I’m a big fan of the brand Alnatura. I know many other German bloggers are, too! :) The brand sells a wide selection of healthy and organic products.

This cereal is a great and healthy alternative to “Honey Smacks” cereal. What I really love about this cereal is that it only has two ingredients. How awesome is that?

CIMG8185Ingredients Translation: spelled (70%), honey (30%).

This cereal tastes kind of like Honey Smacks, only a lot more natural. It’s not coated with sugar and it’s made with a whole grain.

I’m pretty sure its easier to find a bunch of healthy cereal in the USA. I don’t have access to those so I love to order them from iHerb. They ship internationally and you get free samples with every order.

What is your favorite cereal? When you buy cereal, what do you look for? Have you ever tried any of the cereal I mentioned above?

  14. Hey Shannon!
Did I mention that I love to stumble over other german bloggers? May I ask in which part of our pretty small country you do live?

  15. Your hair changed!! zehr gut! ich denke es ist sehr gern. Mein deutsch ist jetzt schlecht.
I'm a huge fan of wheat puffs because I don't like my cereal with added sugar. If I choose something other than wheat puffs, it is most likely a whole grain cereal without sugar or a whole grain hot cereal of some kind. Love oats! Puffed Kamut is also quite nice.

  16. I haven't tried any of those cereal! My favorite at the moment is corn chex....but I don't buy cereal often and just eat it when I'm at my parents' house.

  17. Yum! I am not much of a cereal person in general but if I do have cereal it is usually some form of Attune.

  18. That cereal looks good! I just bought puffed rice today to try out :) I personally like chex cereal (for snacking) the gluten free kind... I just like the squares and anything without evaporated cane juice because that hurts my stomach lol

  19. Shannon I miss your posts! Where are you?

  20. How come everything European looks so much more awesome than American stuff? :)

My favorite (american) cereal right now is Mesa Sunrise. Natural, gulten-free, and low sugar. And it's really good with a banana on top. :)
